The Earth Viability Center

The Earth Viability Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(C)3-tax-exempt corporation registered in Virginia, USA.

Vision

A future where we meet our needs while safeguarding the Earth's life-support system on which the welfare of all life depends; a future where we have an inclusive society embracing justice, equity, and the rich diversity of humans.

Mission

The Earth Viability Center (EVC) understands that there is a need for an informed Global Citizen Movement (GCM) that brings together the very many groups and organizations that are working to find pathways to the future we envision. To make progress towards the future we want and the GCM we need, the EVC has the mission to:
  • Facilitate an informed GCM that brings together the very many groups and organizations that are working to bring humanity back into balance with the rest of nature and to ensure a future in which the basic needs of all people are met while safeguarding the Earth's life-support system on which the welfare of all human and non-human life depends.
  • Develop and maintain the social collaboration platform Place4Us as a virtual companion of the GCM and to facilitate a global ecosystem of virtual communities collaborating in their efforts to heal the ELSS. Place4Us is a virtual platform that facilitates community-building and the interconnection and collaboration of communities.
  • Support the integration and dissemination of the best available scientific knowledge on the ELSS and make this knowledge available to the GCM. The EVC supports development of the best means of informing the general public about the long-term viability of the ELSS and the (mainly) human activities threatening this long-term viability. For this purpose, the EVC is developing an Earth Viability Dashboard that informs the community on Place4Us as well as the general public and decision makers.
  • Contribute to actions and facilitate projects aiming for a society encompassing the ethos of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, in which all have access to the knowledge and education needed to meet our needs while protecting the purpose of the systems that constitute the ELSS.
